Denim Blue Patek Philippe Aquanaut Travel Time 5164G
A stylish combination of white gold and grey-blue brings a touch of sophistication to Aquanaut's practical GMT travel watch.
Patek Philippe has launched a new white gold model of its popular Aquanaut Travel Time, featuring a gray-blue dial and matching strap. While many Patek Philippe enthusiasts mourned the discontinuation of the 5164A stainless steel Aquanaut earlier this year, this new white gold model – the first of its kind – is a handsome addition to the range, joining the existing rose gold models juxtaposed. 5164R.
Launched in 1997, the Aquanaut proved that there was life beyond the mythical Nautilus sports watch. Sportier and more casual than the Nautilus, the Aquanaut is considered a versatile sports watch and comes with a textured tropical rubber strap that echoes the embossed pattern on the dial. In 2011, Patek Philippe equipped the Aquanaut with its first complication, which became the Aquanaut Travel Time.
Flaunting the practical GMT function, the second time zone or home time is indicated by an additional skeletonized hour hand. The date subdial at 6 o'clock is indexed by local time, and has two day/night indicators to indicate local time and home time respectively. Another useful feature of the Travel Time is the user-friendly button on the left side of the case that adjusts the local hour hand backward or forward in one-hour increments.
The case retains its characteristic rounded octagonal bezel and features a vertical satin-brushed finish and wide polished bevels that are replicated throughout the case. The white gold case has a diameter of 40.8 mm and a thickness of 10.2 mm. It is equipped with a screw-in crown, but the waterproof depth is less than 30m, which is somewhat contradictory to its status as a sports watch.
The lovely creamy gray-blue dial features the signature embossed grid-like Aquanaut pattern, which continues on an integrated composite rubber strap with a patented white gold folding clasp. It’s hard to tell without looking at the watch, but the colors look very similar to those used on the 2023 Aquanaut Luce Annual Calendar 5261R. The white gold applied numerals as well as the local hour, minute and date hands are treated with a white luminous coating.
Beneath the sapphire crystal window on the case back is Patek Philippe’s self-winding 26-330 SC FUS movement, driven by a 21k gold oscillating weight. The movement measures 31 mm x 4.82 mm, has a frequency of 4 Hz, a maximum power reserve of 42 hours, and is used for local and home time indications, central sweep seconds, local and home time day/night indications, and local time date.
