ST. CATHARINES, Ont. - Connor McDavid won dinner from Erie Otters teammate Dylan Strome, Bobby Orr won $100 from Don Cherry and Travis Konecny may have earned some better draft considerations from his impressive showing at the CHL top prospects game.Konecny scored two goals and forced the turnover that led to another. Konecny of the Ontario Hockey Leagues Ottawa 67s skated with Connor McDavid and Timo Meier, and that line was a huge reason why Team Orr beat Team Cherry 6-0 at Meridian Centre on Thursday night. Its definitely not hard playing with those two guys, Konecny said. They make it easy for everyone around them, and youve just got to wait and when the puck hits your stick you just put it on the net.Ranked 26th among North American skaters on NHL Central Scoutings midterm list, Konecny was the best in off-ice testing Wednesday and then stood out again in the game playing with and against his peers. He said he wasnt out to prove anything.I think every player in their draft year wants to prove to everyone that they can be the best they can be, the London, Ont., native said. I try not to look at the rankings and Im just going to do what I can do get a team to like me and just hope I can get as high as I can.Konecny scored on a semi-breakaway, beating Owen Sound goaltender Michael McNiven high glove side and then on a give-and-go with Meier. He had the big hit that helped get McDavid the puck on Meiers goal, the second of the night for Team Orr.Defenceman Ryan Pilon and forwards Nathan Noel and Paul Bittner scored for the team coached by Boston Bruins legend Bobby Orr. Goaltenders Nick McBride of the Western Hockey Leagues Prince Albert Raiders and Liam Herbst of the 67s combined for the shutout.Strome had a strong game for Team Cherry and was that sides player of the game. McDavid won the side bet of dinner, and most importantly to Strome, the game.Id much rather win the game and not get that award, Strome said. Id much rather be hoisting that trophy right now than getting whatever prize I got.Samuel Montembeault of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey Leagues Blainville-Boisbriand Armada stopped 15-of-17 shots he faced, and McNiven made eight saves.McDavid showed off flashes of the speed and skill that will make him the top pick in Junes NHL draft. He finished with one assist. It went all right, McDavid said. Obviously the team did very well and its nice to get the win. Personally I thought it was all right. I had a couple chances that I wish I couldve buried, but it really doesnt matter.Konecny said the little things McDavid did to open up ice for him and Meier shouldnt go unnoticed. One thing Cherry noticed was McDavid taking his foot off the gas when the game was a blowout.I saw where he couldve taken some shots — showing mercy to us, Cherry said. I really believe when he got up 4-0 that he let up. Im not saying hes Bobby Orr, but Bobby used to do the same thing. When wed be up 5-1 or something like that, you could see him back off. McDavid looked pretty good. With NHL arenas dark for the first night of the all-star break, the CHL top prospects game took centre stage in the hockey world. Over 200 scouts from all 30 NHL teams were in attendance to see 40 of the best draft-eligible prospects playing major junior hockey.Theres people watching every game, so you just got to block it out as much as you can, Strome said. Obviously there was a big pile of people in the corner there, but other than that I just tried to focus on the game.Prime Minister Stephen Harper was also in the building. Harper spoke to players before the game and tweeted that he got an autographed jersey from McDavid, who signed it on Orrs back.It was McDavids first time meeting Harper, and he said it was awesome to be able to sign a jersey for the Prime Minister.Notes — There was a moment of silence before the game to honour the memory of RCMP Constable David Wynn. ... He was surrounded every time he touched the ball for the Chicago Bears. While Forte struggled for the second straight week, DeMarco Murray found plenty of room to run for the Dallas Cowboys.Forte managed just 26 yards on 13 carries in Chicagos 41-28 loss on Thursday. He also had eight receptions for 74 yards, but most of those gains occurred with the game out of hand in the final quarter.Lack of execution, Forte said when asked about the stymied running game. You know, it would be a missed block here, or blocking the wrong person there. Its many things.Forte matched a career low with five carries for 6 yards in last Thursdays 34-17 at Detroit. The Bears (5-8) have rushed for just 140 yards in their last three games. We tried to run the football, Chicago coach Marc Trestman said. They certainly were making every attempt to stop the run. There were some run blitzes and some edge blitzes, just to try to knock us off. We missed a couple of blocks along the way, but it was evident. While Forte had few noticeable running lanes, Murray scampered through huge holes on his way to a season-high 179 yards on 32 carries. The dynamic running back also had a team-high nine receptions for 49 yards.Murray put Dallas in front with a 1-yard TD run on fourth-and-goal with 10:50 left in the second quarter. He had 114 yards rushing in the second half alone.I pride myself on starting fast and finishing strong, said Murray, who leads the NFL with 1,606 yards on the ground.Joseph Randle added a 17-yard touchdown run in the third quarter for the Cowboys (9-4), who scored 28 straight points to open a 35-7 lead heading into the final period. Tony Romo was 21 for 26 for 205 yards and three touchdowns.Jay Cutler was 32 of 46 for 341 yards and two touchdowns for Chicago, which has lost five of seven. Martellus Bennett had a career-high 12 receptions for 84 yards and a TD, and Alshon Jefferyy finished with six grabs for 95 yards and a score.ddddddddddddBrandon Marshalls juggling 42-yard reception set up Bennetts 12-yard score in the second quarter. But Marshall departed with injured ribs after he took a knee to his right side from Barry Church following a big fourth-down reception on the same drive.Marshall left Soldier Field in an ambulance, but a post to his Twitter account thanked fans for their prayers and said he was good. Its a big loss, said Forte, who had a 1-yard TD run and a 2-point conversion in the fourth. Guys got to step up in his place and play, but you know you cant replace a guy like Brandon like that. He was having a good game, too.The Bears got the ball to begin the second half, but Forte lost a fumble and Romo turned the mistake into a 24-yard touchdown pass to Cole Beasley. He then passed to a wide-open Gavin Escobar for a 6-yard score with 8:02 left in the third, increasing Dallas lead to 28-7.The Cowboys stopped a three-game slide against the Bears, including losses in each of the previous two seasons. They also played a night game at Soldier Field last December, with Forte helping the Bears to a 45-28 victory on a brutally cold Monday.Dallas was coming off a 33-10 loss to Philadelphia on Thanksgiving, and it faces the division-leading Eagles again next Sunday in Philadelphia. Its definitely important to come back and get a W, especially after the loss we had last week, said Beasley, who also had a 13-yard touchdown reception late in the first half. Thats the main thing we wanted to do tonight, except we wanted to do it in a little better fashion. We didnt finish as strong as we wanted to.NOTES: The Bears also lost S Chris Conte to a back injury in the third quarter. ...
